    Description

    NATIVE AMERICAN
NAVAJO SAND PAINTING BALL ORNAMENT BY DARLENE JOHNSON
Navajo people believe that the universe to be delicately balanced. Only man can upset it, causing disaster and/or illness.  When this happens, a medicine mane must restore the natural balance.  Balance is restored in the universe by healing the offender with chants, herbs, prayers, songs, and sand paintings.  They are made mainly out of naturally colored sand, that comes from rocks that are crushed.  Each color represents a direction and a time of day; Blue- South and Midday Sky, Black-North.
Lovely Christmas ball ornament with sand painting of a medicine bear.  Created by Navajo artist Darlene Johnson.
