I bought this miniature Navajo Sand Painting i think over 25 to 30 years ago .
On the Reservation in Arizona not New Mexico .
But the Reservation is huge covering I think 3 states.
We use to pass through there a lot .
It was nice .
As you can see this is small and framed.
Measures 5 x 5 with frame

The name of deity or subject is Healing Girl .
The artist has signed the back .
And there is his card with his Picture too.
Crafting and the spirit of the project has always been taboo to the Navajo Medicine Man and Guide to share with any but a true Navajo .
Their are many chants the men must learn for different occasions.
Which can take a lifetime.
They must analyzed the situation.
A different chant for different reasons.
These healings take lots of time and the Medicine Man gets paid .
There can be manny sand paintings too .
And in the end they are destroyed or changed to spirit cleaning of the participant involved.
They also believe in ghosts and wiches & will have nothing to do with dead people or their houses if person died in them .
Its fascinating.
You should spend a few weeks out in the vast desert ,in the darkness .
It's an experience.
