Choctaw Native American Ledger Art
This Ledger art piece was drawn by Brandon Porter, an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and a registered Choctaw tribal artist. Brandon is also a member of the Southeastern Indian Artists Association.
The ledger piece depicts an ancient native mound builder playing Chunkey. Chunkey was a sport played by the ancient tribes of the Southeastern native Americans. This scene was originally found carved on an ancient shell gorget. Drawing of the original shell is the second to the last picture (not included). The ledger piece is drawn on original ledger paper from 1897.
