    Description

ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU STERLING SILVER VANITY HAIR BRUSH GIBSON GIRL MAIDEN RARE!
    Outstanding!
    8.5”
    A pattern not often seen.
The maker applied for a patent on the design. The side is marked “PAT. AP. FOR” and STERLING. No maker name.
Exceptional antique condition, with minimal and totally inconsequential dings / dents to the sides. The top is perfect. You don’t often find them in this condition.
    Images show both sides.
Mono seems to be LLS or LSS.
Wonderful warm patina with delicious tarnish in the crevices.
The bristles are full with no missing plugs. The celluloid covering has chipped away in spots.
eBay only allows 12 photos so message me if you want any additional photos or close ups.
The maiden with her hair piled high seems more Gibson girl than the prototypical Art Nouveau maiden with long flowing locks.
Starting in the 1890’s through the early years of the 20th Century, the Gibson Girl became the personification of the feminine ideal of physical beauty as portrayed by the pen-and-ink illustrations of the artist Charles Dana Gibson.
At this time we also have an amazing Gibson girl brooch listed, item #275504959372.
Will be boxed and carefully wrapped. She made it for more than a century in this condition and I wouldn’t want her to get bruised now!
